  • think about how in a couple years derek will be older than laura ever got to be
  • cry a small inland ocean

heathyr:

Remember that Derek lost his entire family at around sixteen. I bet when he and Laura ran to New York, he would wake up in the night clutching for Laura in the dark, thinking she was gone. Dreaming that she had been burned too, that he was all alone in this world and doomed to live…

They added vote totals on the After Elton poll. Sterek is in the lead for total votes, followed by Destiel.

If the final vote ends up between Destiel and Sterek, things are gonna get ugly.

I don’t think I have words to describe the way this moment makes me feel. If I was forced to make a comparison I would ask you to conjure up an image of a baby doe laying on a nimbus cloud that was being lifted into the still morning air by a pair of doves while Josh Groban sang “You Raise Me Up” to a group of children and puppies in a field of daisies below. Then toss a handful of glitter onto it.
Because this is Derek DON’T TOUCH ME Hale. This is the person who has reacted to physical interaction with disdain, at best, and violent aggression, at worst. This is the person who tossed Erica onto the ground and Peter across a room when they pulled out the touch card. This is the person who uses physicality as a means of intimidation and control.
Earlier in the season he grabbed Stiles’s shoulders as he ran past him on his way to save Scott, and it made my heart leap. It felt like the beginning of something, like a possibility. Then here, in this moment, he made physical contact for no other purpose than communication. He grabbed Isaac’s shoulder because Isaac was obviously upset by what just happened. (I won’t even go into the expression on Derek’s face throughout the entire Jackson scene because that’s a whole other post.) Derek made that gesture in order to give comfort and solidarity to the person who stayed even if Isaac didn’t stay for Derek. We know Derek isn’t good with words. He isn’t good with expressing his emotions. But he said more with that one gesture than he’s said in a long time. All I can think about is “the simple yet undeniable power of human love.”
I want to hold this moment up for everyone who thinks that Derek hasn’t progressed at all this season. Albeit, he has fucked up a LOT, and no, this might not seem like much. It’s not the most obvious moment in the world. But it’s there and it matters and this, more than anything else, gives me hope for Derek and his pack.
